Sunday Concert Pictures
The Sunday concert, emceed by Wendy Bergfeldt, hostess of CBC Radio’s Island Echoes and Mainstreet Cape Breton, and by Bob MacEachern, owner and General Manager of radio station 101.5 The Hawk (CIGO) in Port Hawkesbury, began shortly after 14h in the Gaelic College’s outdoor amphitheatre. Due to circumstances beyond my control (involving my car’s right front wheel—a story too long to go into here), I arrived three quarters of an hour late and therefore missed the first part of the concert. I apologize for therefore not having photos of the first four (I was told) performances of the concert. As I arrived, the Queens County Fiddlers from PEI were already on stage and into their first number.
Except for the Queens County Fiddlers, when I sat at the far left of the stage, I sat in the centre of the second row for rest of the concert; although I was some distance from the stage, I was able to use my telephoto lens to generally good effect and got pretty decent photos during the bright hours of the afternoon. I am not a professional photographer and am still getting used to my camera; the failing light of the later evening proved somewhat of a challenge and I learned a few lessons that I hope to be able to apply in the future. So take the photos for what they are: my best attempt to capture what was going on at a live event. Inevitably, microphones get in the road and the angle from which I was shooting means that those standing in the back may be obscured by those standing in the front. Still, I’m generally pleased with the way many of the photos turned out and I hope you will enjoy them.The Performance Listing below reflects the names I heard and wrote down at the concert, but given my lack of acute hearing, what I present here may well not be what was said. Moreover, I did not get all of the names and I apologize in advance to those whose names I have shown as question marks, mis-heard, or misspelt.
