The Finale Concert concluded the 40th Anniversary celebrations at the festival. Jointly emceed by Bob MacEachern, owner and General Manager of radio station 101.5 The Hawk (CIGO) in Port Hawkesbury, and by Wendy Bergfeldt, hostess of CBC Radio’s Island Echoes and Mainstreet Cape Breton, the Finale Concert began very shortly after 14h on the stage of the Gaelic College’s natural amphitheatre. I had an excellent spot in the front row of the seating in front of the stage; in addition, Frank MacInnis said I was allowed to photograph from the area above the stage, which I did on occasions where the stage was crowded—this allowed me to get photos of those that were hidden by those standing in front.

I am not a professional photographer, so take the photos for what they are: my best attempt to capture what was going on at a live event. Inevitably, microphones get in the road and the angle from which I was shooting means that those standing in the back may be obscured by those standing in the front. In addition, this was a long concert and continued to well after dark; I attempted to compensate for the dwindling light as best I could on the camera (and have applied additional corrections post-shooting to better bring out faces and features), but I consider myself lucky to have gotten as good shots in the low light as I did, though of course I wish that the later photos had turned out as well as the earlier ones. With those caveats, I hope you will nevertheless enjoy the photos presented here.
