In this view, the shore which runs out first to Pointe-à-la-Petite-Prairie and finally to Pointe-Caveau can be seen from left to right in the middle of the picture; Chéticamp Island lies beyond the harbour mouth and runs across most of the background of the photo. Here, the steeple of Église St-Pierre is readily visible against the sky in the middle left of the photo.
The waters of the Gulf of St Lawrence assume the colours of the sky and so change with the weather; here, they are resplendent under a mostly blue sky. The sandy area at the far left of the photo is often used as a swimming beach; the mouth of the Chéticamp River is to the left and outside the scope of this photo.
