The flighty sun here lit up the mountainside above the road, but left all the glorious reds in the foreground nearly bereft of illumination. How they would shine were the sun to deign to fall upon them!
As this photo shows, the colours were by now certainly approaching their peak. What a rainbow of colours is on display here! It makes one think of a mosaïc, with each tree contributing its own individual beauty to the whole.
