Eagle!
Photo 7 of 24: Eagle!

On this hike near Glendyer Station, I had seen three eagles flying in the air above the Mabou River, apparently teaching a juvenile how to hunt. I didn't take any photos of them because they were all very distant from where I was. Imagine, then, my surprise on the return trek from Glendyer Station to Mabou when one suddenly swooped down and landed in a tree just ahead of me on the trail! I couldn’t believe my good luck when I snapped this photo (and four others, just to be sure!), the best I’ve gotten so far of an eagle in the wild.

But eagles are only one of the many fowl to be seen along the Mabou River, which is always a gorgeous walk in any kind of weather. It is very quiet and the views of river, field, and mountains are always sufficient payment for the small effort in walking to see them. If you ever get to Mabou, be sure to walk this stretch of the Railway Trail! Who knows what you might see?
