I first heard Edmund Hayden, from Guysborough County, play at one of Joey and Karen Beaton’s cèilidhs and was very impressed with his musicianship; if memory serves, he had then just graduated from high school and will be undertaking his final year of undergraduate work this fall. I have since heard him play a number of times, but nowhere so beautifully as in this long, difficult set. It began with a slow air gorgeously rendered and proceeded through a number of tunes, with the speed constantly increasing, and absolutely beautiful playing throughout. A very fine performance indeed!
