Jonathan Scotland sings the lyrics of Hector the Hero a cappella

Hector the Hero is a classic lament, frequently heard in Cape Breton, composed by J Scott Skinner on the suicide of Major-General Hector MacDonald. This is the first time I had heard the lyrics, by Thomas MacWilliam,¹ sung unaccompanied to the tune. Jonathan Scotland lives in California near Alistair Fraser’s school, but has Mabou roots.

¹ The lyrics can be found here.
