Just before arriving at the Cape Breton Highlands National Park entrance on the Cabot Trail, one crosses the Chéticamp River. Usually, there is enough traffic and other distractions that one misses the beautiful views of the river that are available at the bridge.
This is the view downriver towards the Gulf; the mouth seen in the previous photo is about 2 km (1.25 mi) from the bridge. At this time of year, the river is pretty placid, but the rocks one sees here strewn along the shores and even parked in the middle of the river attest to the powerful run-off that must swell this river in spring to make it a raging torrent.
