The unnumbered, paved Louisbourg Main-à-Dieu Road starts just outside Louisbourg, bypasses Big Lorraine, but passes through Little Lorraine on its way to Main-à-Dieu. This view of Little Lorraine Harbour and its mouth into the Atlantic Ocean is from that road at the northern end of the harbour.
The lobster pots at the far left of the photo and the numerous wharves around the harbour attest to the economic basis for this rural coastal community. The architecture of the buildings here is quite typical of what one sees in the other coastal fishing communities, where both boats and houses are sometimes painted in striking and picturesque hues. Directly behind where I was standing is an excellent example of a house so coloured, though none of the buildings in this photo sports anything more audacious than a lemon yellow.
