This view of the Cape Mabou Highlands from the summit of Beinn Bhiorach gives one a good idea of the kind of terrain the trail system traverses. The Cul Na Beinne (Beyond the Mountain) Trail, also known as MacKinnons Brook Lane, snakes through the cleft, following MacKinnons Brook for a good part of the way. You can follow MacKinnons Brook Lane as it goes round the mountain in the right foreground of the photo (unnamed in the CMTC map and in the Nova Scotia Atlas—its coastal flank abuts Beinn Alasdair Bhain (Fair Alistair’s Mountain)) and back around to the Mabou Post Road Trail Head (not visible in this photo). The hills in the very far distance are not part of the Cape Mabou Highlands, but lie on the far side of Mabou.
