This photograph shows the Beinn Bhiorach Trail as it goes over the hump on the side of Beinn Bhiorach, which I call ”Little Benny”. It has a meadow surrounded by evergreens through which the trail passes. If one is climbing rather than descending, this is a lovely spot at which to catch one’s breath before the final, wrenching assault on ”Big Benny” himself! There are no trail markers here, but none are needed as the way forward is obvious.
[2012] I do not know the current state of the Beinn Bhiorach Trail. On “Little Benny” and descending into the MacKinnons Brook Trail Head, the extensive spruce stands are dead. I would therefore expect that these areas would be effectively impenetrable as I have not to date heard of any efforts made to clear them and reöpen the trails (besides the Beinn Bhiorach Trail, the lower end of the MacArthur Trail is also impacted).
