This photo was taken from the first look-off on the way down North Mountain, after having reached its summit from Pleasant Bay. The view here is across the North Aspy River valley towards South Mountain.
The forest here, bright under the afternoon sun, is considerably inland and, while it still has a number of conifers, clearly has a majority of deciduous trees. Although they do not stand out in this photo, I saw many red trees from this look-off. The grey areas near the top of the mountain are deciduous trees which have lost their leaves (or perhaps are dead). Again, my camera did not capture the colours here very well; the lower mountainside was a blaze of colours.
