The Whycocomagh Road offers a constantly changing set of beautiful views as it winds its way ”down the mountain” from Glencoe Mills to Whycocomagh. Some of these views are not immediately obvious (though with the recent construction on this road, they are more so than they used to be), being side views rather than head-on views. This is one of those, showing a hillside lit up by the ever capricious sun, which continued to duck behind clouds at every opportunity. Indeed, seconds after taking this photo, the light was gone and the scene reverted to the duller hues one sees at the far left of the photo.
This inland region is still very much a mixed forest, but has a predominance of deciduous trees, so there are more chances for brilliant colours here than at the coast. On a sunny fall day, this road is a treasure trove of beauties (though it’s a really pretty drive in any season).
