This downriver view at the Third Pool shows how narrow the river has become here; the cobblestone pile seen in the previous photo lies at the far right of the photo on the opposite shore. The Third Pool is at the left of the photo, but the river here is deep enough that it can be considered a prolongation of Third Pool.
The comparatively lush vegetation on the opposite shore of the river is curious; one would expect it to be more like the shores seen downriver, bare and cleared off. Given the reduced volume of the river, perhaps there isn’t a high enough flow during spring run-offs to clear it away.
