13.5 km (8.4 mi) from its junction with the Glencoe Road in Glencoe Mills, the Whycocomagh Road crosses the Indian River, which flows on towards Whycocomagh well below the road’s level; guardrails start here and run along the Whycocomagh Road until it reaches the Stewartdale Cemetery on the outskirts of Whycocomagh.
In most years past, this location has been the site of glorious fall foliage with lots of brilliant reds, one of the best realizations of the ”flaming forest” on Cape Breton Island. This year, the colours were certainly there, but the sun was usually AWOL. This was a lucky shot, as the sun ducked for cover about four minutes after I took this photo and did not come back out again while I was there.
