Again thanks to the generosity of friends, I was treated to another boat ride on the Mabou River during which I caught this photo of great blue herons enjoying the tidal flats in Whale Cove, known as “The Flats”, as nightfall was approaching. I can make out five herons, though only two of them stand out. I recall seeing several more herons standing there than show up in this photo; a number of them must have been outside the camera’s range.
The Acarsaid (Harbour) Trail winds its way around the Whale Cove shore line, sometimes just inside the tree line and other times outside it along the shore, offering easy walking and beautiful views all the way.
